Analysis of the Characteristics of Powder Spraying Process
1. Powder coating does not contain any solvents and is a 100% solid coating. Its manufacturing, transportation, storage, and application solve the pollution problem caused by solvents, improve the working conditions of operators, and benefit their physical health.
2. Simplify the coating process by using powder coating technology, which only requires three processes including powder coating, curing, and cooling to form a film in one go. Greatly simplifies the painting process, shortens the production cycle, and can produce products on the same day. In the electrostatic coating of powder coating, the configuration of automatic coating machinery and recycling system can form automated production, thereby saving energy and resources and improving production efficiency.
3. The utilization rate of powder coating is high. Powder coating can be directly applied to the surface of the coated object, and after baking and curing, it forms a coating film. Moreover, the uncoated powder can be recycled and sent back to the powder supply system for use. The utilization rate of powder coating is about 95% or more.
4. Powder coating has good performance, strong and durable. Powder coating can use resins that are insoluble in solvents at room temperature or polymer resins that are not easily soluble and cannot be liquefied to prepare high-performance coatings with various functions. And during the preparation or film formation of powder coatings, there is no solvent added or released, so there will be no pinholes that penetrate the coating, making the coating denser.
5. It can achieve one-time application of powder coating, which can obtain a coating film with a thickness of 50-300 μ m in one application, and is not prone to dripping or oil accumulation during thick coating. It does not cause solvent pinholes, defects in thick film coating, and has a high coverage rate of edges and corners.
6. Changing colors is difficult and the cycle is long. Due to the fact that powder coating color cannot be mixed on-site with primary colors like paint, the color of powder coating is already determined at the factory. If you want to change its color, you need to change the formula of the powder coating, so it is difficult to complete the color matching work in a short period of time. Due to the use of electrostatic spraying, if the color is changed during the operation process, it is necessary to clean all the spray gun, powder supplier, powder spraying room, powder conveying pipe, recycling system, etc., otherwise it will seriously affect the surface quality of the coating. Especially the transition between dark and light colors is more complex, so it is not easy to change multiple tones in a short period of time.
7. The appearance flatness of the coating is slightly poor. Due to the fact that powder coating is melted by heating and flows flat on the coated object, its melting viscosity is high and it is prone to a slight orange peel shape. The flatness of the coating is not as good as that of paint.Guangzhou WLD equipment co.ltd is a professional suppliers and manufacturer of powder coating booths and lines in Guangzhou,China.
8. There are certain limitations to the powder coating process, which are mainly manifested in three aspects: firstly, the curing temperature of powder coatings is generally above 160 ℃, which limits their application in some heat-resistant products (such as plastics); Secondly, as the majority of spray painting processes use electrostatic spraying, the coated material must be conductive, which requires it to be a metal part. If it is a non-metal part, the surface must undergo conductive treatment and be able to withstand temperatures above 160 ℃.
